Undivided Live: Ask Me About AAC with SLP Ali Steers

Published: Jan. 25, 2022Updated: Aug. 12, 2024

There were so many questions and follow-ups to our Unite and Conquer event with Parent Lelah Coppedge and SLP Ali Steers that we wanted to give parents the opportunity to ask Ali about augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).

Undivided Office Hours provides biweekly (virtual) face-to-face time with specialists, providers, and Undivided team members. Though this usually takes place over Zoom for our members, we opened it up to the public for a special Q&A session.

If you missed the event or want to review what we learned, you can watch the full recording here and see some of the highlights below!

When should you start having your child assessed for AAC? As Ali explains, research indicates that the earlier a child has access to communication, the better. Watch the clip below to learn about the benefits from starting AAC at a younger age and how the process might look.

Parents raising kids with disabilities know better than anyone that every child is unique and has individual needs, and a journey with AAC must take those needs into account. Listen to the clip below for Ali's encouragement and advice for parents who are worried about whether their child will benefit from AAC.
