What are the potential pros and cons of homeschooling?
The benefit of homeschooling, especially with a PSA, is to educate how you like and create the educational experience that you would like for your child. Education-wise, you can go as slow as your child needs, or accelerate if your child needs to.
The downside is finding social connections and opportunities because in public school, that’s built in. If you want classes, curriculum, and friends, you have to find opportunities for that. Undivided Homeschool Specialist Gabriela Gangitano encourages park days as parents tend to be consistent with going there, versus a class where kids might only do one semester. It may be hard for some parents to socialize as well or to introduce their child to other families. On the upside, you as a parent can be there to support the socialization in these spaces.
Another potential downside is that you don’t always have a break, like from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in a public school, unless you have somewhere you are dropping them off.
Public schools have books and curriculum set up already, whereas with homeschool you have to get those materials and figure out which to use.
