What is the difference between day care and respite from Regional Center?

If your child has been approved for both respite and day care services from Regional Center, you may wonder when to use each service. According to Undivided Public Benefits Specialist Lisa Concoff Kronbeck, day care is for parents to work, and respite is for parents to get a break.
Generally, someone who has a legal responsibility to care for the child can’t be paid for respite or day care, and usually Regional Center will say that the respite person can’t reside in the home or they’re considered a natural support.
