Who performs an assistive technology (AT) assessment?
Published: Jun. 12, 2026Updated: Jun. 12, 2026
When a parent requests an IEP assessment for assistive technology (AT), their child should be assessed by the school district's AT department and AT specialist. If you are asking about AAC, that is usually an AAC specialist.
If it is a small district with no AT department, the assessment should still be done by someone with the AT specialist certification. Some districts contract out to a professional to perform the assessment if they don't have their own AT specialist.
