2023 Fall/Winter School Open Houses & Tour Dates in Southern California

It’s already time to think about next year’s school tours and application deadlines. Tours let you get a better view of the schools you’re interested in for your child, with virtual and in-person options. Here’s a roundup of some upcoming tour dates and times. Check out our printable K-12 school tour checklist to help you take notes on the schools you visit!

Public/Charter/Magnet Schools

Tours

  • Virtual tour: CHIME hosts a recorded virtual tour for prospective students and parents to view here.
  • Online events: Parents can register to attend a live online presentation and Q&A session with school administrators to get more information about the school. You can choose a date and get a Zoom link for an event by visiting the school website.
  • Dates:
    • October 3 and 17
    • November 7, 14, and 28
    • December 5
    • January 9, 23, and 30
    • February 6 and 13
  • Times: 9:00 a.m.–10:00 a.m.
  • In-person tours: This year, CHIME is offering in-person tours as well. Each tour is 20 minutes long and designed for a small group of up to six visitors. Visitors will need to observe all health and safety protocols before and during the tour. To view the prospective tour schedule and request a personal tour, go to CHIME’s Prospective Parent Tour calendar.

Application process

  • Admissions: Go to CHIME’s admissions website for information and a link to their SchoolMint application.
  • Application deadlines: For the upcoming school year, CHIME’s lottery application period runs from October 2, 2023, at 8:00 a.m. to February 16, 2024, at 3:00 p.m.
  • Lottery date: March 1, 2024
  • Notification dates: Families are typically notified within a week or two following the lottery if they were selected for admittance to the school.

WISH online tours: WISH hosts a dedicated virtual tour webpage to explain each of their schools in detail, which includes online tours, resources, and downloadable content.

In-person tour dates: In-person informational tours can be attended by signing up through SchoolMint. You will then be sent an email with links to RSVP for a tour, and you will also be able to complete the lottery application.

Application process

  • Admissions: Start the application process on SchoolMint.
  • Application deadline: February 2, 2024 at 6:00 p.m.
  • Late applications: Families who do not turn in an application by the deadline can still fill out an application to be put on WISH’s secondary waitlist. Late applications are put at the bottom of the primary waitlist and are recorded on a first-come, first-served basis. You can find your waitlist number in SchoolMint.
  • Lottery date: February 9, 2024
  • Lottery notification: WISH will offer admission to accepted families within two days of the lottery. Then they’ll need to complete their enrollment forms by March 1, 2024 at 6:00 p.m.

Tours: Bridges hosts parent tours on a biweekly basis. To sign up for a tour, contact admissions@bridges.edu.

Admissions: Admissions are on a rolling basis after an application packet has been filled out and the Director of Admissions determines eligibility. (There’s also a $175 non-refundable fee to apply.) As part of the admissions process, students must participate in an interview and school visit.

Pasadena campus tours: Pasadena campus tours are available on Wednesday mornings. During each tour, executive Director Dean Conklin or Principal Jenny Tucker Mottes will guide small group tours through a typical school day and share information about their learning program.

  • RSVP: To schedule a tour, fill out their online form, contact Jessica Gatlin, or call (626) 791-1255.
  • Admissions: Frostig accepts applications year-round. You can access the application here. Once you’ve filled it out, email it to Jessica Gatlin.

West LA campus tours: The first step in admissions is taking a guided tour of the campus with Executive Director Dean Conklin, who will walk parents through a typical school day and share information about their curriculum and programs.

  • RSVP: To schedule a tour at Frostig School West, email Administrative Assistant Kimberly Henny or call (626)791-1255.
  • Admissions: Frostig accepts applications year-round. You can access the application here. Once you’ve filled it out, email it to Kimberly Henny.

New Roads School Spectrum Program

Admissions:

  • First, families should fill out the Spectrum online interest form.
  • Next you’ll attend an information night and fill out a Spectrum Program application.
  • Then you’ll receive an email to set up an interview with the Spectrum Program Director Elisa Schultz and attend an open house.

Admissions: Applications are considered year-round, and there is a $220 application fee. If your application is accepted, your child will be placed as available space allows. Tours: Parents can fill out this form, and one of the admissions associates will reply to schedule a visit.

Application deadline: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Admissions: Applicants begin by filling out an application form online and paying a $125 processing fee. Upon processing, applicants will have an interview and shadow day on campus scheduled.

Typically, families who are interested in Cheerful Helpers begin with a phone screening; if the school seems like a good fit, they will schedule a school visit.
