Future and Financial Planning
Overview
When should I start thinking about helping my child prepare for the tasks of adulthood?
- It’s never too early to start teaching your kids functional life skills like getting ready for the day, communicating about and budgeting money, and other tasks as developmentally appropriate.
- As your child gets closer to eighteen, you’ll want to start thinking about how to support them in making life decisions and how to keep them safe while fostering their independence. Some options include supportive decision-making, durable power of attorney, and limited or full conservatorships; learn about the differences and which one may be appropriate for your child and family.
